It's A Journey

WHO ARE YOU?

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

If someone asked you that question what would be your answer?  Would it be your occupation, your marital status or your role as a mother, father, sister, brother, child etc.? Those are all roles but they don’t tell who you are. If you find it hard to answer that question you are not alone. There are many of us who find it hard to answer that question. But God created each of us with a distinct imprint to bring something special to this world. You have your own light meant to shine in this sometimes dark, dark world. You have a light that is sometimes threatened to be snuffed out by circumstances that may cause fear and anxiety or old destructive mind-sets that keep us trapped and unable to recognize the “new thing” God is trying to do in our lives. When I think about and embrace who God created me to be I sometimes feel like a little girl trying to wear her mothers shoes. In my mind they don’t fit. The shoes are too big. I love trying them on and maybe one day I will be able to fit them but not right now. Now that’s how “I” feel but God says how can you wait to be the person I created you to be? You already are that person. You may have been shaped by experiences or circumstances but the person I created you to be is already here.

Sometimes it takes quite a bit of inner reflection to discover the real you. A lot of times, for whatever reasons, we may have different masks for different people or situations, depending on which sensibility is affected within us. Some go around fearful and insecure thinking they have to please or prove something. Others go around with bravado and arrogance to mask pain. This whole life journey is not about going through the motions, acquiring things, prestige and power. It’s about spreading the light within, discovering your power and purpose. It’s about touching lives in such a way that your very presence empowers others, that’s the God within you. I have had an encounter with Jesus and He empowers me more and more to be the me He created me to be. You have to be freed to be free.  Freed from fear, from shame, from pain, from misconceptions and deception. The Holy Spirit guides you into the truth of who you are. There is no arrogance or hurtfulness to this truth. It just is. You can love me or not and that is okay. When you finally allow yourself to be the person God created you to be and stop fighting it, you will find peace. There will be some growing pains and adjustments especially for those closest to you. But the ones who truly love you will love you and the ones who can only love you on their terms well that’s just not your problem. Pray and let it go.

I want to be like Christ. He was at ease with Himself. He knew what he came here to do. Save the world. He walked in a world that didn’t always get Him, even despised Him yet He loved and died for them all. He had no need to please and nothing to prove, He just had work to do. He won’t beat you into submission (the world does that). You can love Him or not. He leaves that totally up to you. But His arms are always open to you whether you think you deserve it or not.  Your coming to Christ has nothing to do with anything man has to say to you or about you. The only thing required to benefit from His sacrifice is to believe in who He is, what He came here to do and accept Him as Lord of your life. He then, with more love than you could ever imagine, lead you to your power and your purpose. He will lead you to you. If you are not sure who you are think back to that moment or moments when you allowed your light to shine. That time when you positively affected the life of someone with no strings attached, no hidden agendas, without any need for approval or recognition. That’s when you felt most comfortable in your own skin, that’s when the shoe fit, that’s you. That is who you were created to be. The rest is an illusion or deception born out of something not connected to the light of God who is your power, your source. So who are you? Believe me you are already the person God created you to be.  Look inside, turn on the light and let it shine.

Matthew 5:14 NIV

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
