Rest, Renew, Revive
Updated: Jan 25, 2021
We truly have to be vigilant in guarding our hearts (see Proverbs 4:23). If we are not careful the cares of this world, the stresses of this world, and especially the disappointments of this world can insidiously seep into our hearts. We can become discouraged and disillusioned (see Mark 4:14-20). This can lead to us becoming lukewarm (see Revelations 3:16). Our light is meant to shine but as we become weary of the fight our light can begin to dim (see Mark 4:21-23). We try not to expect much because the pain of being disappointed once again would prove to be just too much. But don’t you see? In order to serve God, in order to be effective, in order to hear, in order to act we must keep our spirit of expectancy. We have to expect that he will show up in our situations, relationships and lives to work out and turn around what was meant for evil (see Genesis 50:20, Romans 8:28). Without faith it is impossible to please God (see Hebrews 11:6) so a good place to stop the move of God in a believers life is to fill their heart with discouragement. It depletes their drive, their desire and their power. Watch out for discouraging situations and inevitable disappointments. Do not allow them to sit and fester and take root in your heart. Spring will soon be here so it’s time to do some pruning, weeding and reviving (Psalm 143:11).
If you are troubled, weary or anxious allow Jesus to give you peace like only He can (see John 14:27). And if you have allowed discouragement to take root, stop beating yourself up, it’s okay. God can and will fix it. Just ask Him to create a clean heart and renew the spirit within you (see Psalm 51:10). Done. Jesus knows. He’s been there and He’s conquered. His victory is our victory (see John 16:33).
Even if you don’t quite feel it yet it’s time to rejoice! I have included the scriptures that will fight and conquer the battle that’s not yours to fight (see 2 Chronicles 20:15). If you are still weary do not hide from Him ….don’t distance yourself…allow Him to hide you under His wing, to shelter you, take refuge in Him and allow Him to be God in your life….He wants to show you who He is….let Him. Read Psalm 91 and get some rest. Be encouraged. Gods got you!
