Where Is Your Seed Planted?

Updated: Feb 23

Matthew 13:1-8 NIV

The Parable of the Sower 13 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake.2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

Where is the word that God planted in your heart at conception, the dream that was sown into your heart before life got in the way? Where is the desire of your heart before some well-meaning (or not so well-meaning) person talked you out of it? Where is the passion that you felt before being kicked in the gut by disappointment? Where is it?  I’m not talking about dreams of fame, riches or fortunes. It’s much deeper than that. I’m talking about the dream in your heart that would influence the way you  moved through this world. The dream that would manifest the glory of God within you. The true you. Where is it?  Is it on the wayside where birds or scavengers are allowed to devour it? Is it in the stoney place, where we  scramble trying to conform and please others, so it can’t take root? Or is it among the thorns, where the cares of this world are choking it and you? Or are you willing to protect it in good ground? Allowing God to nurture and grow the seed so it can show in your life….

Don’t just listen to me. Consider this: Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV) 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Do me a favor. It may sound a little morbid but it really helped me to clarify some things when the chatter of life was getting really loud. Sit back, close your eyes and imagine yourself on your deathbed…you know you are leaving and you have made  peace with it… your family or significant others are all around you…allow yourself to go there and really see it….now in that moment, as you take your last few shallow breaths, what will be important to you? Stop and feel the moment… what will be important to you then…? Do you see it? Can you feel it? Don’t rush…just stay in that place for a moment…..

All God is asking is that whatever will be important to you then make that important NOW and He will fill in the details…..

Matthew 13:9  (NIV)

9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
